Holophone was placed at the bottom of the Superpipe, the big Snowboard halfpipe to capture the surrounding fans up in the Grandstand at the end of the freestyle run.
Placement was in the hands of engineers Ron Scalise and Mark Cochi of ESPN, who have continued to pioneer new ways to use the Holophone for the broadcasting of sporting events, including Pro Bobsledding, Skateboarding, biking, and more recently the 2003 Global X games.
